Takmer 122 metrový obrazec bol objavený v jačmennom poli Yatesbury pri meste Devizes v Anglicku. Zobrazuje znovuzrodeného mýtického vtáka Fénixa vstávajúceho z popola.
Vyšetrovatelia tvrdia, že väčšia časť útvarov odkazuje na možnosť celosvetovej kataklizmy, ktorá by mohla nastať 21. 12. 2012, čo sa zhoduje s ukončením starého majského kalendára.
Majovia verili, že civilizácia existuje v rámci série zemských cyklov, z ktorých každý má 144 000 dní, pričom posledný, trinásty cyklus sa skončí v decembri 2012 zánikom sveta.
Fanúšička kruhov v obilí Karen Alexanderová z mesta Gosport, Hants, povedala: „Fénix je mytologický tvor symbolizujúci znovuzrodenie a novú éru v mnohých kultúrach na celom svete“.

Zdá sa, že útvar s priemerom 150 stôp (45,72 metrov) je kódovaný obrazec predstavujúci prvých desať číslic Ludolfovho čísla pí - 3.141592654.
